Cultural competency is extremely important to me. I have firsthand seen the dangers of clinicians stating they are competent to work with first responders when they are not. The results of that are detremental. Not only am I trauma informed, I can assure you that I am able to hold space for any call, trauma, or personal struggle you would like to bring into session. My own personal self care is just as important to me as my clients. This is why I do not see individual clients on Wednesdays- so that I can ensure my cup is full enough to pour out and hold space when I see my clients. It is also important to me that we are a good fit. I encourage my clients to share if they believe they may be a better fit with another clinician and am happy to provide referrals to my colleagues.

Get to know me

I received my first Bachelors degree in Theology as I lived abroad in New Zealand. Once I came back, I continued my education by receiving my second Bachelors degree in Sociology and Applied Psychology at the University of California Santa Barbara. I then went straight to graduate school earning my Masters in Clinical Psychology at Antioch College. While in my graduate program, I worked in a psychiatric hospital as a therapist as well in a substance use program for those who were houseless. Upon graduating, I received my associates number and went straight into private practice under a supervisor. I then earned my 3,000 hours of experience and sat to take my licensing exam which lead me to starting Destiny Morris Marriage and Family Therapy. While in graduate school I was trained in EMDR as well as First Responder Counselor Certified. I am the daughter of a former first responder and have the lived in experience as well as clinical to call myself culturally competent.

I work from a compassion focused standpoint; which means that empathy and warmth are very important in my practice. I understand that therapy can be a daunting thing for many people and this is why I also believe in a collaborative approach. This means that I want to work alongside you and come up with goals to meet together. In working with first responders, I do understand the stigma behind reaching out and being seen for mental health. This is why confidentiality is my number one prioroty with my clients. Your time is also valuable to me. I am very solution focused and goal oriented in my approaches. My goal is not to keep a client in therapy longer than they need and should eventually have the tools to do the work on their own. While trauma therapy and PTS can seem like longer work to the client, it is important to me that you feel understood and seen. I have a sense of humor I often use with my clients in session to lighten the mood or discomfort when needed. I also understand and welcome the dark humor that often comes with first responders.

meet Honey

Honey is a miniture goldendoodle and was originally trained to sit with clients as I saw them in person. Now that our office is 100% remote- Honey is usually at my feet or warming up my seat prior to sessions starting for the day. Clients may periodically see her fluffy head in the background of sessions or hear her trying to get comfortable in her favorite bean bag. Honey's job is now to support me as I support my clients through the day!
